Which conference is known to be the biggest and best container conference in Europe? That's right, ContainerDays in Hamburg.
Why did we attend? We love being a part of the IT community and participating in all the fun. We see events like this, as a great opportunity for sharing knowledge, learning, and making new friends. If nothing else, this was a great opportunity to meet new people, and bond over new technologies and the weather.
Let's begin with the venue. ContainerDays is all about containers and the technologies that support containers. So this year the venue was actually outdoors, on a historic freeport of Hamburg.
This port was constructed in the 1890s but became obsolete in the 1960s when standardized containers started to conquer the world. A symbolic story and to be discussing virtual containers.
The event started with a bang with great weather, great people, and great topics. Our two team members, Jefta van der Woerd and Niels van Doorn, were walking around with two iPad ready to hear everyone's story about new learning technology.
They were curious about how tech professionals education themselves and whether companies were giving them the resources and time needed to keep up with new technologies.
Luckily, attendees were open to conversation and laughs, while enjoying the summer sun. Though, no one expected to run from the sun.
On the 25th of June, as the morning passed by, the sun got stronger. Temperatures rose above 35 degrees celsius, and being surround by cement and metal, didn't help. However, everyone made the best of it, mainly in three ways.
First, everyone was attending talks with great insights into the developments around containers.
2. In between the talks, everyone was making new friends while cooling off around the pool.
3. Last but not least, let's not forget the importance of ice. Everyone in the conference took advantage of the ice, whether it was in a cups filled with water and beer.
Overall, Jefta and Niels enjoyed the conference and had a great time talking with everyone about learning new technology. Even with the heat and the challenges that come along with it.
